Nearly $2.4 Million to Iowa from HUD

WASHINGTON, DC – September 9, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa will receive grants totaling $2,377,626 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding comes from the Community Development Block Grants program and the HOME program.

“These funds will help provide decent, safe housing options for Iowans in Cedar Falls and Waterloo,” Grassley said.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will distribute the money as shown below.

• Cedar Falls will receive $309,983 through the Community Development Block Grants program.

• Waterloo will receive $1,391,769 through the Community Development Block Grants program.

• Waterloo will receive $675,874 through the HOME program.

The Community Development Block Grants program provides annual grants to states and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to states and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
