Public Meeting to Discuss Reissuance of Water Quality Permit for Mine and Quarry Discharges

WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 19, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The DNR will hold a public stakeholder meeting Aug. 25 to collect public comments on the proposed reissuance of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit #5.

The meeting will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Wallace State Office Building, 502 East Ninth St. in Des Moines, in conference rooms 4 East and West.

General Permit #5 authorizes discharges from mines and quarries. It also establishes limits and monitoring for those discharges. Authorized discharges include wash water, materials transport water, dust suppression water, non-contact cooling water, and mine and quarry dewatering. The active permit was issued on July 20, 2011 and will expire on July 19, 2016.

Comments will be accepted on the proposed permit, the fiscal impact statement, and the jobs impact statement. Those comments may be made orally or in writing at the public meetings. Those unable to attend the meeting can submit written comments through Sept. 1 to Julie Faas, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 502 E.
