Second Industrial Wastewater Discharge at Roquette In Keokuk

-

KEOKUK – August 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Roughly another 3,500 gallons of industrial wastewater discharged Monday night following the morning discharge of 500 gallons at the Roquette America, Inc. plant in Keokuk.

The discharge began about 5 p.m. when an expansion joint on a condensate pump failed, discharging the condensate to the Mississippi River.

The condensate may have contained ethanol and related compounds, but the concentrations won’t be known until sampling results come back from a laboratory.

The company quickly stopped the pump to repair the pipe joint.

The DNR will continue to monitor the situation to determine if the discharge exceeded permit limits under the company’s national pollutant discharge elimination system (NPDES) permit.
