Developer of Year award goes to Ryan

Minneapolis-based Ryan Cos. US Inc., with offices in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, won the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties’ Developer of the Year award.

President Pat Ryan and other senior managers will receive the award Oct. 18 in Atlanta. Ryan Cos. is a commercial design builder, developer and real estate manager.

Iowa projects include John Deere Credit, Wells’ Dairy Inc. and the second phase of the Allied Insurance expansion

Deere & Co. boosts full-year profit forecast

Deere & Co., the world’s largest farm-equipment maker, increased its full-year profit forecast after third-quarter earnings rose 23 percent on orders for tractors overseas. The shares gained 3.1 percent.

Net income climbed to $537.2 million, or $2.37 a share, from $436 million, or $1.85, a year earlier. Revenue grew 5.9 percent to $6.63 billion, the Moline, Ill.-based company said Wednesday in a statement.

Earnings topped analysts’ estimates as sales of machinery outside the United States rose 30 percent, helping counter a 20 percent drop in construction and forestry equipment. Deere predicts ag revenue in South America will climb about 30 percent this year.

Deere gained $3.60 to $120.69 in Wednesday’s trading. The stock has jumped 75 percent in the past year.

Hawkeye Energy forms Hawkeye Gold

Hawkeye Energy Holdings LLC, an Iowa-based renewable energy company, said Wednesday that it had formed a distillers grain marketing business called Hawkeye Gold LLC. Hawkeye Gold will be the brand name of the distillers grain product, a co-product of the ethanol process, that will be sold domestically and internationally.

Randy Ives, a distillers grain marketing professional with more than 14 years of experience, will lead the company as senior vice president, the announcement said.

In addition to marketing distillers grain from the four Hawkeye Energy Holdings plants, Hawkeye Gold has received commitments from several other ethanol plants to market their distillers grain. Hawkeye Energy Holdings LLC has headquarters in Ames and two operating ethanol plants in Iowa Falls and Fairbank. It has two facilities under construction near Menlo and Shell Rock.

NRG Media to buy five radio stations

NRG Media, a Cedar Rapids-based broadcasting company, said Wednesday that it had agreed to buy a cluster of five radio stations in the Lincoln, Neb., area from Triad Broadcasting Co.

The stations — KFGE, KBBK, KLNC, KLIN and KWBE — include three music-oriented FM stations and two AM stations with news and talk formats.

NRG Media, founded in 2005 as a result of the merger of NewRadio Group and the radio assets of Waitt Media, is based in Cedar Rapids. It operates 83 stations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Its Iowa stations are in Algona, Boone, Humboldt, Sioux Center, Spencer, Spirit Lake, Storm Lake and Webster City.

AirTran connects Quad Cities, Las Vegas

AirTran Airways begins service today between Quad City International Airport and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The discount carrier will serve the Moline, Ill.-based airport and Las Vegas with four flights per week.

As part of its Volunteer Service Award program, Wells Fargo will contribute $10,000 to nonprofit organizations. A donation of $1,000 will be made on behalf of 10 team members:
