DES MOINES, IA – August 13, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — As you visit the Iowa State Fair this year, stop by the DNR building to explore Iowa’s natural resources and have a chance to win a free stay at the Honey Creek Resort State Park.

The free one-night stay is a prize in Lt. Governor Patty Judge’s Travel Iowa ’09: State Fair Edition program. To enter, Iowans can pick up their Passport to the Fair at the Governor’s Office booth, located in the center of the Varied Industries building. Then, they must visit six participating State Fair attractions and have their passport stamped at each. Once completed, they must return it to the Governor’s Office booth for a chance to win a two-night stay at Honey Creek State Resort in Moravia, Iowa’s only destination park.

The DNR building is just one place visitors can have their passport stamped. While there, they can also look in on the historic 21-tank aquarium and learn how they can do their part to help protect our environment, and purchase Iowa outdoors-themed gear and subscriptions to Iowa Outdoors magazine at the Iowa Nature Store.

“We always look forward to the State Fair and the opportunity it brings to visit with people,” says DNR Director Richard Leopold. “Our building showcases the natural resource of Iowa, what they have to offer and the responsibilities we have as citizens to be good stewards of them.”

A stroll around the rest of the building will help visitors learn more about reptiles and amphibians, river trails, state park cabins and the new Honey Creek Resort State Park. And throughout the building, conservation officers, foresters, fish and wild biologist, park rangers and environmental specialists will be available to answer questions.

The DNR’s courtyard, with its duck pond, sandbox, drinking fountain and plenty of shade offers State Fair goers a place to relax, cool off and take in daily stage presentations in a park-like setting. For list of courtyard presentations with dates and times, visit the DNR Web site at www.iowadnr.gov/iowastatefair/.

The DNR building is a large, brick, open-air pavilion located just inside the east or main entrance to the fair on the north side of the Grand Concourse.
