More Than $1.1 Million in Loans and Grants to Southern Iowa Rural Water Association

WASHINGTON, DC – August 20, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded two loans and a grant totaling $1,156,000 to the Southern Iowa Rural Water Association in Creston through a competitive process in the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program.

“This funding will help provide important water and wastewater infrastructure to rural communities in southern Iowa,” Grassley said.

The Office of Rural Development has distributed funds to the Southern Iowa Rural Water Association as described below.

·         A $40,000 loan and a $40,000 grant to help complete construction of a new sewer system for Macksburg.  A low pressure collection system was installed within Macksburg to serve 73 properties.  A discharge lagoon system has been constructed for wastewater treatment.

·         A $1,076,000 loan to help construct a new water tower and booster station to improve delivery of rural water services to customers in Taylor and Ringgold Counties.  The loan will be for 40 years at 2.625 percent interest.

The Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program provides funding to develop water and waste disposal, including solid waste disposal and storm drainage, systems in rural areas and towns with a population not in excess of 10,000.
