NEW HARTFORD, IA – November 10, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — Residents of New Hartford will view proposed recovery ideas for their community at a
Community Open House November 8.The event, to be held at the New Hartford K-8 School, 508 Beaver St. in New Hartford from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will display designs, graphics, maps and ideas developed by the City’s 20-member Comprehensive Land Use Task Force assisted by Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments (INRCOG) and ESF #14 Long-Term Community Recovery (LTCR) during a series of recent meetings. An EF-5 tornado struck the community on May 25, 2008 followed by flooding two weeks later when the Beaver Creek crested five feet above flood level, destroying or damaging many of the town’s homes and businesses.

People attending the event will have an opportunity to review and express their ideas about the proposals suggested to help this community of about 650 people rebuild.

Mayor Pro Tem Gordy Ballhagen, who has lived most of his life in New Hartford, stated, “I feel this event is important to our recovery. Our citizens must participate in this planning process in order for New Hartford to fully recover.”

”We encourage those living in and around the area to attend this event,” said Tina Potthoff, communications director for the Rebuild Iowa Office.  “We want everyone to have a voice in the rebuilding process and this open house is one of the best ways to participate.”

Representatives of the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) and experienced recovery professionals from FEMA’s Long-Term Community Recovery (LTCR) branch as well as members of other FEMA program areas will be on hand to answer questions.
