WASHINGTON, Dc – January 18, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded a $93,536 grant through a competitive process to the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in Des Moines through the Education and Outreach Initiative in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Fair Housing Initiatives program.

“These funds should help Iowans better understand and comply with federal, state and local fair housing laws,” Grassley said.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Fair Housing Initiatives program assists fair housing activities that increase compliance with the Fair Housing Act and with substantially equivalent state and local fair housing laws administered under the Fair Housing Assistance Program. The Education and Outreach Initiative helps educate the public and housing providers about their rights and obligations under federal, state and local fair housing laws
