U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be distributing nearly $90 million in grants for a variety of projects aimed to build and improve flood-prone structures in communities across south Louisiana

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, Iowa Sec. of Agriculture Bill Northey and key federal and state partners announced that the State of Iowa was awarded nearly $97 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of the National Disaster Resilience Competition that will help accelerate flood reduction and water quality efforts in key watersheds over the next five years.

Kim Reynolds and Iowa Sec. of Agriculture Bill Northey will join US Housing and Urban Development officials, Mayor Roy Buol of Dubuque and City of Dubuque officials, additional state officials and key stakeholders to provide significant flood reduction and water quality grant details. The leaders will discuss efforts to help accelerate flood reduction and water quality efforts in key watersheds around the state.

Starting Aug. 10, small Iowa communities (populations of 5,000 or less) can apply for funding to perform asbestos inspections on neglected buildings in a special round of funding from the DNR’s Derelict Building Grant Program.

The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant offers funding assistance for wildfire suppression equipment, slide in units, hoses, nozzles, adapters, portable tanks and pumps, personal protective equipment and communication equipment. Additionally, if a fire department has a special need that can be tied directly to wildfire suppression, this grant allows for such special requests

The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors today awarded a $35,000 State Housing Trust Fund grant to Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity. The grant will be used to finance the construction of an affordable home in Boone for an eligible family. The funding is made available through the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based Housing program. The program provides financing for the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing units

Congressman David Young joined the Southwest Iowa Housing Trust Fund to announce more than $530,000 in affordable housing grants awarded by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) Strong Communities Fund.

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the State Veterans Home in Marshalltown has been awarded $529,584 from The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The funds will be used to build a transportation facility and upgrade two generators at the home
