April is Fair Housing Month
How To Be Your Best Advocate?
April 14, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — In recognition of Fair Housing month the Sioux City Human Rights Commission, Siouxland Human Investment Partnership (SHIP)and the Four Directions Community Center are hosting a symposium “How To Be Your Best Advocate” will be held Thursday, April 22nd at the Four Directions Community Center, 613 Water Street, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
A meal will be provided at no cost starting at 5:30. The event hopes to empower tenants with the ability to ensure fair housing for themselves. Tenants will learn best practices on how to prevent eviction, what is illegal discrimination, and other tenant rights and responsibilities. Presenters will be Teramie Hill, for the Sioux City Human Rights Commission, Frank Tenuta, Managing Attorney with Iowa Legal Aid and Juel Burnette with the Office for Indian Programs.
In addition, local agencies will have booths with helpful information and resources.
