Congressman Latham Discusses Protection of Student Loans with Iowa Higher Education Group
Washington, D.C.—The Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities recently sat down with Iowa Congressman Tom Latham to discuss legislation before congress dealing with credit and student loans. Congressman Latham’s track record of keeping students at the forefront of the student loan debate identifies him as a leader in Congress on the issue of student loans.
It is imperative that we make the path to education as easy as possible,” said Congressman Latham. “When we can get Iowa students into college, I have all the confidence that they’ll do well–but we have to allow them to get there in the first place. We want to make sure that students and families have continued access to federal student loans beyond what the current system provides.”
The congressman spoke with the group about the credit crisis and its impact upon student loans. Congressman Latham is expected to cosponsor H.R. 5914, the Student Loan Access Act, which would help ensure uninterrupted access to student loans for Iowa students by shoring up liquidity for student loans in dire situations
