Drought Free Conditions Statewide

DES MOINES – July 13, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Recent rainfall has resulted in 100 percent drought free conditions for the first time in Iowa since November 2014. Streamflow remains normal to above normal for most of the state, while groundwater in one small area of northwest Iowa is slightly below normal.

Near-record streamflows were measured in Raccoon and Des Moines River Basins over the last two weeks. The previous peak of record was surpassed at Walnut Creek at Des Moines, English Creek near Knoxville, and White Breast Creek near Dallas.

Torrential rain fell on June 24 from Carroll and Greene counties to Appanoose and Davis counties totaling three to five inches. Excessive rains also fell across Muscatine and Scott counties on July 6.

Conditions in recent weeks continue to improve in states surrounding Iowa as well, but drought conditions west of the Rocky Mountains have seen little improvement.
