Governor Culver Breaks Ground For New ‘Green’ State Building In Des Moines; Commemorates Grant Wood And American College Testing In Iowa City

DES MOINES, IA – August 19, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Later this week, Governor Chet Culver will be taking part in events that mark the state’s commitment to energy efficiency and green technology, commemorate a world-renowned native Iowan artist, and mark the 50th anniversary of one of the nation’s leading educational organizations.
On Thursday, Governor Culver will join other state leaders at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new offices of the Iowa Utilities Board and the Office of the Consumer Advocate. The building will serve as a model of cost-effective energy efficiency, green energy, as well as an educational/demonstration building. The building was designed using LEED standards for green building certification and will use 63% less energy than a typical office building.
Later Thursday morning, the Governor will deliver remarks at the E-Health Summit, sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care.
On Friday, Governor Culver will take part in two events in Iowa City. That morning the Governor will make a special announcement to commemorate the contributions Grant Wood made to the State of Iowa and the world of art. Perhaps best known for American Gothic, Wood was a leader of the Regionalism art movement and an art teacher at the University of Iowa. Governor Culver will make the special announcement at Grant Wood’s former home in Iowa City.
Later in the day, Governor Culver will take part in an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of ACT, Inc. The event will take place at the Old Capitol, site of the very first organizational meeting of the American College Testing Program on August 21, 1959.
