State Housing Trust Fund grants support Habitat for Humanity projects

Des Moines, IA – August 4, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) Board of Directors today approved $62,000 in grants to support Habitat for Humanity projects in Clinton and Perry. The funding is made available through the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based program. The program provides financing for the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing units.

Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County will receive $12,000, and the Dallas/Guthrie Habitat for Humanity, Perry was awarded $50,000.

“IFA is proud to work in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County and the Dallas/Guthrie Habitat for Humanity to provide grants that aid these organizations and provide safe, affordable housing for two Iowa families,” said IFA Executive Director Joe O’Hern. “The projects in Clinton and Perry are perfect examples of the affordable homeownership opportunities that the State Housing Trust Fund was created to support.”

The two grants will be used to help finance the construction of single-family homes in Perry and Clinton. The families who occupy the homes will receive financial, home repair, homeownership and foreclosure prevention education and must also complete the required hours of sweat equity prior to closing on the home. Habitat for Humanity of Iowa will administer the grants.

“The support of the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based program has allowed several Iowa Habitat for Humanity affiliates to move forward with projects,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Bobbi Bendickson. “The program has grown to be an important resource for us, and we truly appreciate the partnership that ultimately fulfills deserving Iowans’ dreams of owning a home.”

The Iowa Legislature created The Iowa Finance Authority, the state’s housing finance agency, in 1975 to undertake programs to assist in the attainment of housing for low-and moderate-income Iowans.
