Iowa Finance Authority Awards more than $84,000 from State Housing Trust Fund

State Grant Funds will Support Affordable Housing in Clinton, Boone, Fort Dodge and Volga

Des Moines, IA – September 8, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) Board of Directors recently approved a total of more than $84,000 in grants to four organizations from the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based Program. The program helps finance the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing units.

Three of the awards were granted to Habitat for Humanity affiliates to construct affordable homes for eligible families in Clinton, Boone and Fort Dodge. Partner families will receive financial, home repair, homeownership and foreclosure prevention education. Habitat for Humanity of Iowa will administer the grants.

Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County

  • Grant Amount: $13,000
  • Project: Construction of home in Clinton

Habitat for Humanity of Boone County

  • Grant: $20,585
  • Project: Construction of home in Boone

Webster/Humboldt Habitat for Humanity

  • Grant: $40,500
  • Project: Construction of home in Fort Dodge

Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation was also awarded a $10,000 grant to finance construction and related costs of a single-family home in Volga as part of the organization’s Rent-to-Own Program. The project was also previously awarded a $30,000 grant from the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based Program.

“The State Housing Trust Fund grants announced today will not only assist hard-working Iowans directly by providing them with adequate housing, but will also aid the revitalization of our communities’ neighborhoods and ultimately boost economic activity for our state,” said IFA Executive Director Bret Mills.

The Iowa Legislature created The Iowa Finance Authority, the state’s housing finance agency, in 1975 to undertake programs to assist in the attainment of housing for low- and moderate-income Iowans.
