WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 15, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Home sale prices continue to rise while home sales are up and homes are selling faster than last year according to the Iowa Association of REALTORS® (IAR).

The IAR’s 2015 April Housing Trends Report show that median sale price rose 7.9 percent. In April 2014 the median sale price was $126,000 while the median price last month was $136,000.

Sales increased from a year ago at 4.6 percent. 3,033 homes were sold in April 2014 compared to 3,172 homes that sold in April 2015. Active listings and Pending listings are up 5.9 percent and 9.7 percent respectively, which bodes well for the coming months.

Homes continue to sell quickly as days on market fell to 90 days as compared to 96 days at this time last year.

“The spring market continues to be strong in Iowa. It is great to see sale prices and homes sales continue to go up. Another positive sign is inventory is up 1.7 percent from last year. Sellers are beginning to realize that now is a great time to sell. They know that with low interest rates and lots of lending options, buyers are out and ready to buy.”

The information used to create the IAR 2015 April Housing Trends Report was current as of May 13 at 12:00 p.m. The information is subject to change due to the dynamic nature of the IAR’s housing statistics system, which is updated hourly based on information present in local participating MLS (multiple listing service) systems.
