Sioux City, IA – January 27, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The Inspection Services Division would like to remind property owners who have rental property within the city to register the property before it is to be rented or leased.
Sioux City’s Rental Registration Program requires that all rental property be registered with Inspection Services Division before it can be occupied or leased as rental property. City code also requires payment of an annual rental permit fee once the property is registered.
Rental permits expire on December 31st of each year and property owners are allowed a 30 day grace period after this date to make payment. The grace period will expire January 31st, at which time a $25.00 late fee will be added to each structure.
If the property owner fails to make the rental permit payment by March 31st, the rental permit will be revoked. The property owner will then need to re-register the property and pay a $50 registration fee plus penalty in addition to the annual permit fee.
It is unlawful for a landlord to, rent lease or otherwise allow the occupancy of any dwelling unit unless they hold a valid rental permit. No landlord may collect rent unless they hold a valid rental permit.
If you have any questions regarding the rental permit process, you may call the Inspections office at 712-224-5216 or log on to our web site at www.sioux-city.org
