Xenia Rural Water Customers Told to Boil Water

BOUTON – July 17, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Some customers of the Xenia Rural Water District in central Iowa are being told to boil water before consuming after a water main break Wednesday night, state environmental officials said.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. approximately two miles north of Stratford. The break drained the water tower and affected more than 800 customers. Repairs are underway, but residents are advised to boil water until test results can eliminate the presence of bacteria. The boil advisory will remain in effect until those results come back. Xenia officials hope to have the first round of samples submitted today. A second set will be taken Friday.

The advisory affects those customers in Xenia’s North Water Service Area east of the Des Moines River. For a map of the affected area, see www.xeniawater.org.

Residents should bring water to a boil for one minute and let cool. Boiled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation.
