Young Announces Des Moines to Receive $8 Million in Transportation Infrastructure Funds
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Iowa Congressman David Young today announced the City of Des Moines will receive $8,000,000 in grant funding through U.S. Department of Transportation’s (US DOT) TIGER Grant Program.
The grant will support the City of Des Moines’ proposed project, Bridges to Opportunity: Des Moines’ Community Connection, to reconstruct and replace several roadway and multi-use trail bridges in downtown Des Moines.
“This announcement is exciting news for Iowans in Des Moines and the greater metropolitan area, and will have an important impact on the current and future development and connectivity of our city and the region,” Congressman Young said. “I support efforts such as this, to improve the longevity, safety, and stability of our infrastructure in Iowa and across the country, which is also why I voted for a long-term transportation funding bill last year. I look forward to seeing firsthand the benefits and improvement this grant will bring to the economy and our communities.”
“The City of Des Moines wants to thank the U.S. Department of Transportation and Congress for granting this award to us which is vital to the continued success of our community,” Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie said. “This project allows us to connect all sectors of our city to the opportunities at the heart of Iowa.”
Congressman Young urged the US DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx to consider the City of Des Moines’ grant application earlier this year.
