August 13, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Cecelia Street Improvements – Construction on Cecelia Street, from 1st Street to Correctionville Road, will begin next week and will require the closure of Cecelia Street south of 1st Street. This closure allows for the installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main. Construction is anticipated to be complete in October, 2009.

Sunnybrook Drive Paving – Sunnybrook Drive, from South Olive Street to South Oleander Street, will be closed for paving panel replacement beginning Thursday, August 13th. Traffic will be detoured north to Wellington Avenue. This work is anticipated to be complete by Monday, August 17th.

2009 Bridge Improvement Program – Construction on the Floyd Boulevard Bridge will not interrupt traffic during weekdays, but a single lane bi-directional flow will be necessary on Saturday, August 15, 2009. Flaggers will be present to control the alternating flow. Westbound lane restrictions are required on Aviation Boulevard for repairs to the 1st Street/Aviation Blvd Bridge.

2009 Bridge Inspections – Bridge inspections are underway on several Sioux City bridges. The inspections may require temporary lane closures this week on the following streets: 6th Street over the Floyd River, 11th Street over the Floyd River, 28th Street over the Floyd River and 18th Street over the Floyd River.

Downtown Resurfacing Project – Resurfacing of 5th Street is complete; contactors are still in the area making sidewalk repairs, which could require temporary lane restrictions on 5th Street between Pearl Street and Floyd Boulevard.

Military Road Phase V Widening & Reconstruction – The intersection of Myrtle Street and West 21st Street was reopened yesterday and West 21st Street from Ross Street to Rebecca Street was closed. Current closures include West 21st Street from Ross Street to Center Street Park (with the exception of the intersection of Myrtle & W. 21st) and Center Street from West 18th Street to West 19th Street. Center Street Park is accessible from the south via Center Street. Traffic is currently being detoured from 26th Street to Myrtle Street and from Ross Street to 19th Street. The intersection of Center Street and West 19th Street is partially closed and only accessible from the north and east, so eastbound traffic on West 19th Street will be detoured one block north. These closures allow for street widening and the installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main.

Martha Street Widening and Reconstruction (Gordon Drive to Stone Avenue) – This project will take place in two stages. Stage I construction is underway and requires the closure of Martha Street from Gordon Drive to mid-block between Marshall Avenue and Indiana Avenue. Stage I construction is anticipated to be completed in late August, weather permitting. Stage II construction will begin upon the completion of Stage I. Traffic is being detoured to South Cecelia Street via South Alice Street and Stone Avenue. This closure allows for street widening and the installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main.

Heights Neighborhood Reconstruction –Stage I & II construction is underway, requiring the closure of the following streets: Cook Drive, Valley Drive and Sunset Circle north of McDonald Drive, Ridgeview Road at McDonald Drive, McDonald Drive between East Solway and Summit Street, Summit Street just north of McDonald Drive, Kennedy Drive at 24th Street and 24th Street at Hamilton Boulevard. Construction on Valley/McDonald Drive is anticipated to be complete in August and the construction on West 24th Street is anticipated to be complete in October, 2009. These closures allow for street widening and the installation of sidewalk, storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main.

Indiana Avenue Reconstruction – This project requires the closure of Indiana Avenue from South Rustin Street to South Helen Street for sanitary sewer installation and storm sewer and paving improvements. Construction is anticipated to be complete in September, 2009.

Springfield Street Water Main Replacement – Springfield Street, between 45th Street to 46th Street, is closed to thru traffic until the end of August for the construction of a new water main.

West 2nd Street Water Main Replacement – West 2nd Street, between Sioux Street and Market Street, will be closed to thru traffic beginning next week. This closure is expected to last until mid-September and allows for the construction of a new water main.

2009 Paving Patch Program – Construction is underway on Fairmount Street between 4th Street and South Lewis Boulevard. Lane restrictions will be required to complete the work. Other streets included in this year’s paving patch program are: the intersection of 6th Street and Hoeven Drive, 5th Street from Nebraska Street to Jones Street, 3rd Street from Nebraska Street to Virginia Street, and Sergeant Road from Vegas Court to South Lakeport Street.

Curb and Gutter Reconstruction – Reconstruction of curb and gutter on South Lakeport Street between Laurel Avenue and Garretson Avenue is underway and anticipated to be complete in August, 2009. Parking and lane restrictions may be necessary during construction.

The Engineering Division understands that residents and businesses will be inconvenienced by the various street closures associated with these projects. We appreciate your patience and cooperation and will continue to keep you well informed.
