Area Road Construction Update

April 01, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Jackson Street Reconstruction: 22nd Street to 24th Street – This total reconstruction project, which is a continuation of what was constructed last summer, requires the closure of Jackson Street between 22nd Street and 24th Street. North bound traffic will be detoured west one block to Nebraska, then north two blocks on Nebraska to 24th Street, then east one block back to Jackson Street. South bound traffic will be detoured one block west to Nebraska, then south two blocks to 22nd Street, then east one block back to Jackson Street. In addition, beginning this Thursday, April 2, 2009, and continuing for approximately two weeks, Road Closed to Thru Traffic on Jackson Street will be used from 21st to 22nd Street and from 24th to 25th Street. As a safety measure, parking will be restricted to one lane only along the detour route with the exception of 22nd street where parking has been removed on both sides due to the narrow street.

Cunningham Drive Reconstruction Phase II: – This phase includes new sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and paving. It is anticipated that Cunningham Drive will be closed April 13, 2009. The posted detour route will utilize South Lewis Boulevard.

West 24th Street Reconstruction – This project includes the reconstruction of underground utilities (storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main) and removal and replacement of the existing pavement on West 24th Street, from Geneva Street to Hamilton Boulevard. Stage I Construction will begin April 6, at which point W. 24th Street will be closed from Perry Creek to the west side of Hamilton Blvd. and Geneva Street will be closed from 23rd Street to 24th Street.

West 17th Street Reconstruction – West 17th Street will be closed from Ross Street to George Street beginning April 1, 2009 for underground utility improvements and street widening. This project is in partnership with the Sioux City Community School District’s Smith-Everett School Replacement and Site Improvements Project. A block and a half of W. 16th Street, west of Rebecca, will be vacated and removed. A block and a half of George Street, from 17th Street to Remsen Place, will be vacated and removed.

Outer Drive Bridge – Construction of the Outer Drive Bridge over the Floyd River continues. There are no road closures associated with this project.

18th Street Closure – 18th Street was closed between Hwy 75 and Terminal Drive beginning March 31st. This closure is for rail repairs on 18th Street and is expected to last approximately two days.

Dale Street Park Improvement – No street closure, but construction equipment will be in the area. This project which includes adding fencing, water utilities, and paving for a future splash pad and basketball court, is located between 15th and 16th Street on Dale Street. Work will begin April 8th and last until late June.
