Iowa Finance Authority Awards Operation Threshold $50,000 from State Housing Trust Fund
Funds to Support Housing Counseling Program in Waterloo
Des Moines, IA – October 9, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) Board of Directors recently approved a $50,000 grant to Operation Threshold from the State Housing Trust Fund’s Project-Based Program. The program helps finance the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing units.
Operation Threshold will use the grant to support the organization’s P.R.O.U.D housing counseling program, which provides resources, opportunity, understanding and direction to homeownership. Services offered to homeowners include in-depth counseling, intervention and advocacy with mortgage services or lenders, referrals to community services, and assistance in accessing funds from other programs that can contribute to a homeowner’s financial stability. Operation Threshold is also a partner in the state-sponsored Iowa Mortgage Help initiative that assists Iowans who are at risk of foreclosure.
“IFA is proud to support Operation Threshold’s housing counseling program,” said Executive Director Bret Mills, “IFA clearly shares Operation Threshold’s dedication to housing counseling initiatives, and we’re proud to partner with them through the award announced today, as well as through the Iowa Mortgage Help initiative to help thousands of Iowans who are struggling with their mortgage find viable solutions.”
Since its inception in 2003 the State Housing Trust Fund has provided more than $12.6 million to affordable housing projects across the state. For more information on the State Housing Trust Fund, visit: www.IowaFinanceAuthority.gov.
The Iowa Legislature created The Iowa Finance Authority, the state’s housing finance agency, in 1975 to undertake programs to assist in the attainment of housing for low- and moderate-income Iowans.
