Washington, DC – July 6, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congressman Dave Loebsack announces more than $32 million in weatherization assistance for Iowa. The funds are from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will be used to weatherize more than 7,200 homes over the next three years.

“Iowans lead the charge when it comes to renewable energy and energy efficiency and this funding will go a long way to help working families create long term energy cost savings,” said Congressman Loebsack. “By making our homes more energy efficient, we will make strides toward reducing our monthly bills and making it easier for Iowan families to make ends meet.”

These funds are administered through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), and aim to reduce energy costs while improving health and safety of residents. The program also targets the elderly, persons with disabilities, and families with children to create energy cost savings for households that are particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in energy costs and health hazards due to poorly constructed or unsafe homes.

In the Second District, the following agencies will distribute the funds: Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Community Action of Eastern Iowa, Community Action of Southeast Iowa, Southern Iowa Economic Development Association, and South Central Iowa Community Action Program. After demonstrating successful implementation of its plan, the Iowa will receive an additional $40 million, for a total of more than $80 million.
